Just a short entry for today, better yet, for now. I received a particular response to a post that I wrote that inspired me in so many different ways and through the elation all I could think of is to write. I guess I am that sort of person who finds a degree of comfort in writing on various issues. However, why do it if there isn't going to be some sort of message either direct, implied, or even by innuendo?Realistically I believe that this is every writer's objective albeit in whatever genre one may find it. Sure there is a format for newsletters, novels, fiction, non-fiction, journalism, and even poetry. I think we call all accept that those who rise to the top are those who push those formats to their very edge. And just sometimes we get lucky with someone who goes over and everybody's talking!
Every single day I receive some number of irritating emails that are from bogus lands in Africa and from bogus tribesman requesting Caterpillar, or John Deere equipment so that they can make new fields for crop growing. Sometimes I get emails from folks who just need to get over the top and out of debt. To this day, I've yet to receive anything from New Orleans.
I am one of those people who follow the box office receipts, salaries, and back-end points (percentages) of gross and net revenues of various films and especially film stars, celebrities I think they're called. Seriously, if one looks at the amount of money that Owen Wilson has made over his last 10 films, it ostensibly shows that Mr. Wilson, or any of Hollywood's elite could buy their own country.
So why is it that these very celebrities are all up to dole out big money for other nations and the difficulties they suffer and not theirs? I mean, is Mr. Sudan, or Ms. Darfur, or Ms. Peta and her cohorts strewn about the landscape, are these the entities that are paying hard-earned money to see a film they are in?
Far be it from me to cast judgment on anyone and especially their money; however, when something huge happens here at home—and yes—that does include Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Dallas, and Boston (Matt D. who I love), and Miami, New Orleans, and Gulfport. It is very difficult for me to acknowledge, or begin to understand why these rich, not-so-talented-people, who have opinions on everything from politics to sex (for a laugh, right Maher!) and have no difficulty whatsoever espousing their bullsheeit whenever they feel like it.
Until these clowns can reasonably come to the aid and assistance of the 'po folks of New Orleans, or for those who lost everything they owned on September 11, or earthquake victims, or mining families support, maybe the USA box office is just too far overrated. What do you think?
